Solar panels on rural fincas in Mallorca
Many country homes in Mallorca sit on rustic land. Solar is possible, but the permit process needs careful planning.
Roof or ground mount
The simplest option is usually the roof of the house or a legal outbuilding, with panels flush to the roof. Ground or pergola systems typically need a fuller permit process and, depending on land category, additional reports.
The building’s legal status
Before designing, we review the property’s paperwork: building licence, completion certificate or current planning status. Planning issues on the house can complicate the solar permit, so it is best to know early.
Typical steps
Each town hall has its own procedure, but on most fincas the process is:
- Site survey, shading study and document review.
- Technical design with landscape integration.
- Prior notification or licence application, plus other reports if required.
- Installation, electrical certificate and grid registration.
- Grant and tax rebate applications where applicable.
Off-grid fincas
Where there is no grid connection or supply is weak, we design an off-grid or hybrid system with batteries and, if needed, a backup generator. Winter consumption is the key sizing factor.
