The climate for heat pumps in Palma
Palma lies at about 34 m above sea level, in climate zone B3 of the Spanish Building Code (CTE). According to the 2014–2023 PVGIS series (European Commission), the coldest month is January, averaging 11.9 °C, and the municipality has about 297 heating degree days a year. For comparison, Marratxí has 396 and Calvià 203.
In this climate, for a 120 m² home built between 1980 and 2006 we estimate a heating demand of about 5,400 kWh a year and about 7.1 kW of power, covered by a 8 kW Vaillant aroTHERM plus.
Compared with an oil boiler (about €1,500 a year for heating and hot water for 3 people), a heat pump with radiators would cost about €467: indicative savings of €1,033 a year. Underfloor heating or fan coils improve efficiency further.
Heat pump grants in Palma
If the heat pump replaces an oil, propane or gas boiler, a Vaillant unit earns about €2,000 in Energy Saving Certificates (CAE). For a main home, Spanish taxpayers can also deduct 40% of the investment from income tax, up to €3,000. And the installation can be financed interest-free. Check yours in 2 minutes with our grants calculator.
The Balearic Government’s FACTOR 2026 programme closed to applications on 17 October 2026 because its budget ran out. For reference, a 8 kW unit would have received up to €5,600 (€700 per kW of heating output). If you already applied, we help you with the final paperwork.
What to consider in Palma
For flats and penthouses we propose compact units and fan-coil or underfloor solutions in full renovations.
Near the sea we protect the outdoor unit against salt air and position it to reduce noise.
In offices and warehouses we combine heat pumps with solar to cut climate costs during working hours.
Complete, certified installation
We calculate heat loads, choose the emitters, install the unit and hot-water tank, certify it under RITE and handle the CAE and the energy certificates for the income-tax deduction.
- Vaillant aroTHERM plus or Saunier Duval GeniaAir Max (R290)
- Underfloor heating, radiators or fan coils
- Zone control and myVAILLANT app
- 15-year warranty with the official Vaillant maintenance plan
Heat pumps in Palma: flats, villas and apartment blocks
In Palma most jobs are replacements: oil or gas boilers and electric water heaters swapped for a heat pump, often keeping the existing radiators. In flats in the Eixample or Pere Garau the challenge is where to put the outdoor unit — courtyard or terrace — respecting noise limits and the building’s rules.
In the villas of Son Vida, Son Rapinya and Sa Vileta the usual choice is the complete system: underfloor heating and cooling, hot water and, where there is a pool, pool heating using surplus solar. Being by the sea, we choose equipment and mounts that stand up to the salt air of the bay.
Heat pump grants in Palma
The Balearic Government’s FACTOR 2026 programme, which paid up to €700 per kW of thermal output, closed to applications on 17 October 2026 because its budget ran out. Other support remains: if the work cuts non-renewable energy use by at least 30% — shown with energy certificates before and after — Spanish taxpayers can deduct 40% of the investment from their income tax, up to €3,000; and removing a combustion boiler earns Energy Saving Certificates (CAE).
If you already applied for FACTOR, we help you with the final paperwork. And before you sign we give you the figures with the support still available and interest-free financing, so you know exactly what you will pay.
Heat pump plus solar
If your Palma home has its own roof, adding solar panels to the heat pump cuts the bill even further. The heat pump uses most power in winter and on summer evenings; the panels cover much of the cooling and, with hot water scheduled for midday, nearly all of the hot water. Our heat pump calculator includes this combined scenario.
